Da Nang opens modern library along Han River

A modern General ScienceLibrary worth nearly VND51 billion (US$2.24 million) was inaugurated bythe Han River in Da Nang on August 31 based on the upgrade and expansionof the old library.

The library is built on an area of over 2,000m2 on a total 7,200m2 plotof land in the shape of an opening book facing the Han River with theaim of honouring reading culture.

The construction of the new library commenced in November 2014; it can now receive up to 2,500 readers instead of 1,100.

The library also consists of functional rooms including a reading roomfor children, a multimedia reading room, a room for looking upaddresses, a reading room for the visually impaired, and a roomproviding information on the World Bank among others. It also includes a400m2 hall to serve seminars, meetings, book introduction activities,book exchanges and more.

The Da Nang General Science Library has been connected with librarysystems in all provinces and cities nationwide, and with three nationallibraries in France, the US and Australia as well as with manyuniversities worldwide.

Vice Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee Dang VietDung said the new library marked the important progress of the city’slibrary sector and the culture sector, aiming to improve theinfrastructure and the spiritual life of the local residents.
