Free concert L’Amour Toujours slated for weekend

L’Amour Toujous concert will take place on Saturday night in HCMC’sDistrict 3, featuring romantic pieces by Haydn, Glinka, Tchaikovsky,Saint-Saëns, Rachmaninoff, Squire and Vivaldi.

Admission is free for the concert at the Southern Women’s Museum at 202 Vo Thi Sau Street from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The first part of the program features two pieces by Franz JosephHaydn, including Arietta con variazioni in A Major, Hob. XVII:2 andKeyboard Sonata No. 59 in E flat, Hob. XVI:49 respectively by pianistsHo Khanh Van and Thai Ngoc Thuy Trang.

Variations on Alyabyev’s Romance “The Nightingale” by Mikhail IvanovichGlinka will be played by Nguyen Quy Huu Minh and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s“Vocalise” from 14 Romances, Op. 34 will be performed by cellist Vo LeMinh Thu and piano accompanist Nguyen Lu Hiep.

The concert’s second part showcases Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto No. 1 inE major, Op. 8, RV 269: “La primavera” by the Swinging Strings andFelix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49, II. Andante conmoto tranquillo by pianist Nguyen Lu Hiep, violinist Bui Sy Nguyen andcellist Vo Le Minh Thu.

Pianist Nguyen Ngoc Bao Minh will contribute two pieces ofEtudes-tableaux, Op. 33 No. 9 in C-sharp minor by Sergei Rachmaninoffand Sonatina in C major, Op. 36 No. 3 by Muzio Clementi.

Camille Saint-Saëns’s “Le Cygne” from “Le carnaval des animaux” andWilliam Henry Squire’s Tarantella, Op. 23 will be played by cellist LaiHuy Hoang and piano accompanist Nguyen Lu Hiep. The last two pieces ofthe show, Romance in F Minor, Op. 5 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky andParaphrase de Concert sur “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi / arr. FerencLiszt are respectively played by Hoang Ngoc Dan Thy and Dang Duy Nguyen.

The event is organized by Nhom ban yeu nhac co dien Sai Gon (SaigonClassic Music Group), a hub for young artists and enthusiasts to nurturetheir love for classical music and master skills and knowledge, andpromote classical music in the community via a series of high standardconcerts, music talks and exchanges.

Due to limited seats, audiences are advised to register in advance byemail volammk@gmail.com. The organizer also calls for a minimum donationof VND50,000 to support upcoming concerts.
