Jetstar Pacific inaugurated Monday a nonstop flight between Hanoi and Hong Kong and announced it will soon offer services to the Central Highlands city of Pleiku, a plan similar to that of its low-cost competitor VietJet Air.
The Hanoi-Hong Kong service will have one daily round trip every Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
The two-hour flight departs from Hanoi at 4:15 pm and from Hong Kong at 7:55 pm local time, using the 180-seat Airbus A320.
Tickets are available on the airline’s website, starting at only VND590,000 (US$26.34) per flight.
Jetstar began selling tickets for the Hanoi-Hong Kong service in mid-April and “bookings continue to increase,” CEO Le Hong Ha said Monday.
The budget carrier also said without giving details that it has plans to open services connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Pleiku, the capital city of Gia Lai Province, in the future.
The Pleiku airport was temporarily closed for upgrades and repairs in mid-March, and only resumed service on September 5.
No-frills carrier VietJet Air revealed at the reopening ceremony that it will open the Hanoi-Pleiku and Ho Chi Minh City-Pleiku routes on October 1 to mark the occasion.
It takes around one hour and 35 minutes to fly from Hanoi to Pleiku, and just one hour from Ho Chi Minh City, according to VietJet Air.
“The new routes are expected to boost travel between this city in the Central Highlands and Vietnam’s two most dynamic and developed cities as well as neighboring regions,” VietJet Air director of business development Desmond Lin said.
VietJet Air also announced on Monday that it has begun selling tickets for flights before, during and after Tet, or Vietnam’s Lunar New Year, which falls in early February next year.
Tet is a peak season for air travel in Vietnam as a large number of people will fly home for family reunions, or go on domestic and overseas vacations.
Passengers are encouraged to book tickets soon to enjoy cheaper prices, according to the airline.
VietJet Air will also increase the frequency of high-demand routes to facilitate passengers’ travel.
For instance, there will be more than 20 round trips per day for the Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi service during the Tet season, and ten round trips per day for the Ho Chi Minh City-Da Nang route.
