Malaysia to attract Vietnamese visitors with diverse tourism spanroducts at travel exspano

Malaysia will send a delegation of travel trade representatives to an international tourism exhibition scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City next week, when they promise to showcase diverse tourism products to lure Vietnamese visitors.

The Malaysian delegation will consist of representatives from Sarawak Convention Bureau, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council and travel agents, the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, or Tourism Malaysia, said in a press release on Tuesday.

These representatives will share what Malaysia offers to Vietnamese vacationers at the 11th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC 2015), running between September 10 and 12 in the southern metropolis.

Tourism Malaysia seeks to showcase and celebrate Malaysia"s bountiful and diverse cultures and festivities through the campaign ‘Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015’ at the expo, according to the agency under the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Malaysia has targeted to take the number of international visitors to 36 million and tourism receipts to more than MYR168 billion (US$43.1 billion) by 2020, and Vietnam remains a key market among Southeast Asian countries, according to Tourism Malaysia.

More than 285,716 Vietnamese tourists came to Malaysia for holidays, business or to visit friends and family last year, according to Do Phan Vinh Hai, marketing manager of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of Tourism Malaysia.

“[Malaysia] would love to welcome many more,” she said.

The Tourism Malaysia pavilion at the ITE HCMC 2015 will feature performances of the Malaysian the tarik demonstrators, henna and caricature artists, which Hai believes will draw attention from many expo visitors.

“The fact that Malaysia is truly diverse and offers a safe and easily accessible taste of Asia is really appealing to Vietnamese tourists,” Hai said.

On the occasion of the ITE HCMC 2015, Tourism Malaysia has worked with local travel agents and airlines to create new shopping packages, some of which coincide with Malaysia’s famous Year End Sale in November and December this year, according to Tourism Malaysia Ho Chi Minh City.

These promotional packages will be sold during the three-day expo and are meant to be “attractive to those who like to add a little shopping to the mix when they go on holiday,” Hai said.

The main strategies to boost arrivals from the Vietnam market include health tourism, MICE tourism, collaboration with airlines for more direct flights to Malaysia, as well as more training for front-liners of tour operators, according to the marketing manager.

At the ITE HCMC 2015, Malaysia also wants to raise awareness of its innovative healthcare facilities and the country’s position as a premier world-class medical tourism destination, Hai added.

The Malaysia Health Travel Council will attend the event in the hope of seeing more Vietnamese people travel to Malaysia for healthcare and tourism purposes.

Tourism is the second-largest foreign currency earner for Malaysia after manufactured goods and it is one of the fastest-growing economic sectors directly contributing 5.7 percent of the country’s GDP, according to Tourism Malaysia.
