Press seminar to introduce 5th art festival of Then singing and Tinh instrumental music

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai hosted the press seminar.

The festival is a chance to propagandize and introduce people in the whole country and international friend about folk arts of Then singing and Tinh instrumental music, a type of arts of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic group; express a care of the Party and the State to maintain and develop ethnic culture; create opportunity for artisans and artists to meet and exchange cultural values of the art.

The troupes of 14 provinces (Cao Bang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Dak Nong and Dak Lak) will perform folk arts of the ethnic groups of Tay, Nung and Thai.

At the festival, the seers can visit the exhibition themed "Then cultural heritage of Tay, Nung and Thai ethic groups" to display some objects, pictures and musical instrument of Then singing; international seminar "Maintaining and developing heritage values of Then singing in the ethnic groups of Tay, Nung and Thai in Viet Nam".

Tuyen Quang Province is home to 64 Then singing clubs with nearly 1,000 local participants.

There are two types of Then singing: “Then ky yen” (praying for good things) and “Then le hoi” (Then festival). The first is performed at rituals while the latter form is to bring cheer and drive away sorrow and hardship in life and is normally used in rituals to pray for good seasons, enter a new home, or “cap sac” (coming-of-age).

The event is part of efforts to promote the traditional art to people nationwide in the name of preserving the folk singing.
