The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre on March 31 reopened the DuyetThi Duong Royal Theatre after a temporary closure to upgrade itsinterior.
The renovations includedincorporating a space for displaying and introducing art performanceactivities at the theatre, one of the oldest in Vietnam.
Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the centre, said the theatre’s stage hadbeen restored and the interior had been thoroughly overhauled.
Hai pointed especially to the display area of Nha Nhac, a type of theVietnamese court music, court dance and court classical Vietnameseopera, introducing a number of photos, costumes, musical instruments,masks, and other relevant materials to the public.
Since being recognised as a world intangible heritage by the UnitedNations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, the Nha NhacHue royal court music traditionally performed at Duyet Thi Duong hasbeen featured over forty times.
The Duyet Thi Duong theatre was built in 1826 in the Minh Mang Dynasty and served as the Royal Theatre.
