Hoi An announces free admission fees to ancient quarter, Cham Island

Authorities in the historic town of Hoi An have announced it will exempt tourists from entrance fees to the ancient quarter and Cu Lao Cham (Cham Island), two popular tourist spots, on Thursday.

Vo Phung, director of the Hoi An Culture and Sports Center told news website VnExpress the policy is made on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam Tourism Day (July 9, 1960-July 9, 2015).

A ticket to the ancient quarter of Hoi An costs VND80,000 (US$3.33) for Vietnamese and VND120,000 ($5) for foreigners.

The ticket price to the Cham Island, around 20 nautical miles from Hoi An, is VND40,000 ($1.66).

The town, which was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, receives around 4,000 tourist arrivals each day.
