Big-name designers bring fresh air to Vietnam Fashion Week

The Vietnam International Fashion Week is the hottest showbiz event in Vietnam this month.

The five-day fashion fête, which started Wednesday in Ho Chi Minh City, will see many designers from Italy, France, Australia, Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines share the spotlight with 11 home grown designers.

Vietnamese designer Phuong My, who has been breaking into the fashion scenes in New York, San Francisco and Tokyo, opened the week with 50 minimalist designs in her new collection “Reflection.”

French designer Julien Fournié threw into the catwalk some Sahara desert breezes with his latest collection “First Initiation.”

The familiar face of the Paris Fashion Week was greeted with uninterrupted applause at the end of his show in HCMC on October 14.

There is more to be excited for this weekend.

Prominent trend setters, including Japanese Yumi Katsura, Italian Renato Balestra and Vietnamese Victoria Huyen, are highly expected to infuse their spirits in the coming shows.
