The aviation industry is expected to save 40,000 flying hours every year after the Vietnamese military has allowed it to overfly air force training areas on 23 routes.

Minister of Defense Phung Quang Thanh told the National Assembly Thursday that the government has approved the proposal to adjust the routes.

He said the air force would also pull out of major international airports Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, and Da Nang to “give space to civil aviation development.”

There is one Air Force division at each airport, which not only take up space but also delay the landing and take-off of civil aircraft, he said.
