According to Ivo Vasiljev and Nguyen Quyet Tien, co-authors of the collection, it comprises six volumes targeting Vietnamese expatriates and Czech people who want to learn Vietnamese. The dictionary set is considered a bilingual encyclopaedia, as it covers a wide range of subjects, including society, culture, history, biography and geography.

The first volume, 10,100 words, was launched in November 2013. The second came out a year later with 9,200 words.

At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Truong Manh Son acknowledged the authors’ ceaseless contribution to promoting the Vietnamese language and fostering the bond between the two nations.

Associate Professor Tomas Hoskovec noted that Vietnamese is not just a foreign language in the Czech Republic, but also the language of a local ethnic minority.

Nguyen Van Son, the rector of Sapa, a Vietnamese centre, said his teachers use the first two volumes to prepare their lessons.

A ceremony celebrating Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20) also took place as part of the book launch.
