Hanoi to host international concert


About 150 amateur singers from all over the world will sing for joy at a Ha Noi Opera House concert slated for November 28.

Entitled Sing For Joy, the concert will feature a fusion ofchoral pieces of different genres such as classical with Handel’sHallelujah, pop with The Beatles’ Obladi Oblada and Asian folk musicwith South Korea’s Arirang and Viet Nam’s Trong Com (traditional cylindrical drum).


“The Sing For Joy concert will have the beauty of harmony,”Trang Trinh, the concert’s art director, said. “It will showcase thebeauty of music in which harmony is created by different notes, musicalinstruments and voices, but with the same passion of creating a betterworld.”


The concert will also feature guest Korean conductor Koo Chun and soprano Lim Ji-eun.


Conductor Chun was artistic director of the National Chorus of Koreafor three years. He studied conducting at Westminster Choir College inthe US.


He will conduct the last performance by all singers who will sing Michael Jackson’s song Heal The World to close the concert.


“After the Paris attacks, we hope the concert will convey the message of peace to people,” the art director said.


Soprano Lim is known for performing not only different musical genres, but also for motion pictures and television dramas.


She has won many prizes in Korea and across the world such as thefirst prize at the Korea and American Competition and the second prizeat Belcanto International Competition in Italy.


She was recently selected as the ambassador for Wisdom for the Future Fund in Korea.


At the Ha Noi concert, Lim will sing a solo You Raise Me Up.


The Sing For Joy concert is a fund-raising event. All proceeds will be donated to the Miracle Choir and Orchestra.


The singers’ age ranges from six to 60, and they will come from eightchoirs in Ha Noi such as the Ha Noi International Choir, the KoreanChildren Choir, Ha Noi Freude Choir, and Concordia International SchoolConcert Choir.


“We are honoured to take part in the Sing For Joy concert. Our choirincludes members from the US, China, Korea and New Zealand,” ConcordiaSchool’s music teacher said at the press conference held on Tuesday.


The Sing For Joy concert has been being selected as one of thewinning projects for its Charlotte Peace Designer Contest launched bythe UN Human Settlements Programme.
