A capsule hotel, a favorite lodging option for solo and budget tourists, is now available in Nha Trang.
The first such hotel in the central resort town opened in late October with 56 capsules, each measuring two meters long and one meter high, and at a cost of VND170,000 (US$7) a night.
There will be a 20 percent discount during November, according to the hotel.
Each steel capsule has a TV, air conditioner, a safe, fire safety equipment and wireless Internet.
Ho Minh Chau, chairman of the company that owns the hotel at 25 Le Loi Street, was quoted by Khanh Hoa newspaper as saying more than 150 customers came in the first 10 days.
Chau said the service targets young travelers, especially those who want to travel on a small budget, and those who have regular business in town.
Phan Thanh Truc, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Province tourism department, said the new product helps diversify lodging options and would draw more visitors to Nha Trang.
Capsule hotels first appeared in Japan in 1979 and have since made their way to many countries.
Several operate in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Highlands resort town of Da Lat.
