Positive results from project developing human resources for tourism sector

Developed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the project was deployed between January 2010 and June 2015 at a cost of over 4.3 million euros. Of this, 3.95 million euros came from official development assistance (ODA) capital provided by Luxembourg, and the remainder was from the Vietnamese government’s budget.

The project was carried out at the Da Nang Vocational Tourism College in Ngu Hanh Son District and 8 other tourism training establishments nationwide. The purpose was to develop human resources meeting international standards to work in the national tourism sector. The specific aim was to encourage the participating training establishments to improve the quality of their training programmes to satisfy the national demand for qualified human resources.

Under the project, many hotel rooms in certain localities across the country were provided with more interior decorations, whilst the participating training establishments were equipped with computers, interior decorations and kitchen utensils.

Teachers at the establishments were offered training courses to improve their professional skills. Thanks to this, the quality of the training programmes at these establishments has been considerably improved.

Eight of the 9 participating establishments have been upgraded into colleges. Locally, the Hue and Da Nang vocational tourism colleges will be developed into prestigious tourism training establishments in the near future.

Between 75% and 80% of graduates from training courses at intermediate and junior college levels have found suitable jobs after graduation, and their qualifications have met the recruitment requirements of businesses.
