VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City authorities have decided to spend VND51 billion ($2.5 million) to repair the 200-year-old Giac Vien Pagoda in District 11, one of the unique religious architectural works in the city.
This is one of the few temples in the city that has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national historical – cultural relics since 1993.
The temple has been illegally encroached upon by local people and is severely deteriorated. Many ancient houses in the temple have nearly collapsed. Many columns and frames are seriously rotten. The roofs leak and are dilapidated.
