Vietnam plans to increase visa fees for foreign nationals entering the country by up to 2.5 times, but will reduce tourist visa to the old rate of $5 a person.

A new draft by the Finance Ministry said the single entry visa fee for overseas Vietnamese and foreigners will be raised to $45 apiece from the current $25.

The fees for three-month to five-year visas will be raised from the current range of $50-$100 to between $65 and $225.

It’s not clear when Vietnam will apply the new fees but they will not affect Vietnamese nationals.

The draft plans to bring back the old tourist visa fee, after the Immigration Law raised it nine-folds to $45 a person from January this year, only to draw a lot of criticism from travel agencies.

The prime minister in the same month asked related authorities to create the best convenience for tourists to Vietnam.
