Miss Vietnam confronts con-artists posing as her management

Miss Vietnam 2012 Dang Thu Thao discovered two fraudsters have posed as her management to con numerous businesses and charities out of money.

According to Thao, she heard rumours about the swindles over a year ago but had no idea what to do or how to find these people. 

Recently, her friends drew attention to a Facebook page which was allegedly being run by her managers. 

The page included a lot of Thao’s pictures and her activities and also called for donations. 

Thao said there was also a fake Dang Thu Thao Facebook page linked with it to make both of the pages more credible.

Further information came to light when a friend of Thao invested into a movie, only for her to be surprised to be told by the studio that Thao’s manager had already accepted a deposit and had agreed to star in the film. 

Thao’s friend immediately thought this was suspicious as she knew the former beauty queen was uninvolved in any film production work. 

Thao and her friend then cooked up a plan to catch the swindlers. 

They arranged a meeting at a cafe with the fraudsters on October 8 offering them a tempting contract.

With the conmen ready to sign the contract, Thao and her friends caught them red-handed and reported the incident to the police.

Police in Ho Chi Minh City’s Ward 7 arrested Luong Thi Tuong Vy and Nguyen Quang Vinh for fraud. Vy had also claimed to represent beauty queens and models including Ly Nha Ky and Miss Vietnam 2014 runner-up Tran Huyen My.

Police are expanding their investigations into the case.
