First Vietnam-Japan collaborative movie screened

VietNamNet Bridge – The first collaborative movie between Vietnam and Japan, ‘Hoa Cung Lan Gio Viet’ (‘Betonamu No Kaze Ni Fukarete’ or ‘Final Days of Life in Vietnam’), was screened at the National Cinema Centre, No. 87 Lang Ha Street, Hanoi on August 18.

The movie, by Japanese director Kazuki Omori and Vietnamese director Dang Tat Binh, revolves around a 62 year-old Japanese teacher residing in Vietnam who brings her Alzheimer-affected octogenarian mother to live with her and spend the rest of her life in the country.

The movie was adapted from Japanese writer Miyuki Komatsu’s novel and life story, titled “Echigo no Bachan Vietnam e Yuku” (Echigo’s Grandma Goes to Vietnam).

The novel was first published in Japanese and later translated into Vietnamese. Japanese writer Miyuki Komatsu, who is also a teacher, is currently living in Hanoi.

The work features well-known Japanese actresses Keiko Matsuzaka and Reiko Kusamura, alongside the Vietnamese cast. Keiko Matsuzaka, a much-loved actress with prominent roles in film and television dramas over the last 20 years, had to learn Vietnamese for her starring role in the movie.

The film is expected to be screened in Japan later this year.
