Rail fares to be cut for upcoming holiday

Rail fares, holiday, reduced

The fares will be cut by two to 10 per cent.

The number of passengers is expected to fall sharply compared with last year, as employees will get only one day off for National Day.

The cut in rail fares was aimed at attracting more passengers, Vietnam Railways said.

The Ha Noi Railways Transport Company also plans to cut the rail fares of Thong Nhat trains running on the North-South line by three to 12 per cent for post-summer period this year.

The transport ministry has asked the Viet Nam Directorate for Roads, Viet Nam Railways and other relevant agencies to take steps to ensure traffic safety and social order, as well as to meet the travel demand of passengers on the occasion of the 70thanniversary of the August Revolution and National Independence Day on September 2.
