A look at Vietnam, from the sky

Even with local authorities recently voicing security concerns about the rampant use of drones in Vietnam, there’s no denying that these flying cameras have given both professional and amateur photographers a new creative medium to show the country’s “hidden” charm.

Many videos have been released the past few months, featuring stunning scenes of many destinations across Vietnam.

“Vietnam – View from Sky” by Le The Thang is probably one of the most professional productions so far.

With sharp and precise editing, the Hanoi-based freelance photographer manages to pack the scenes of more than 10 destinations, from Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh, to the Big Church in Hanoi, and Ninh Thuy fishing village in the central province of Khanh Hoa.

The end result is a short video that brings a strong sense serenity — a rare aspect of Vietnam, where people are being swept away by the fast growth of economy and society.

Thang, who used to work for several communication agencies in promoting Vietnam’s tourism, said it took him two months to finish the video, almost by himself.

He said he always loves taking photos from a height, but it was not until he acquired a camera drone half a year ago, could he broaden his “from the sky” photography.

So, like many other photographers who have heavily relied on camera drones for their creativity, Thang does not see a bright outlook for his future creativity, now that the defense ministry has tightened its control over drone-related activities, asking them to apply for licenses before using the filming device.

Thang said while he understands reasons behind the ministry’s latest move, he hoped that the authority can have a thorough look at camera drones, especially their benefits.

“Our country is amazingly beautiful with landscapes that no other countries can have. Camera drones is the best tool allowing us to record such beauty and introduce it to local and foreign tourists,” Thang said.
