Although floods have withdrawn for several days, many people in Mong Duong cannot go home. Tens of houses disappeared under a mud layer of several meters.

Ten days after the floods, people people began returning home to clean up the mud and repair the houses.

According to local authorities, 67 households lost their homes after the houses were completely submerged in mud; 40 households were affected as the roads to their houses were seriously damaged.
Most of the 107 affected households were miners at the Mong Duong coal mine.

The local government has provided these families with rent for three months, with VND2 million/family.

Ms. Ha Thi Luong’s house is located on a high ground so the layer of mud is only 20cm. However, she has had to ask for help from her relatives to clean up the house.
