After many new roads as O Cho Dua, Hoang Cau, Nguyen Van Huyen were completed, many odd-shaped and super-small houses have appeared along the roads. Some of them are even less than 2 m2 in area, just enough for one person to lie down. This is the 2.5 m2 house on Nguyen Van Huyen Road.

As the house is too small, it is used as a warehouse.

Not far away from this house, an ill-shaped house of about 10 m2 is built by iron sheets on a triangular plot of land.

The owner, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, said after her land was revoked to build the road, her house is now only 10 sq.m and it has no toilet or bathroom.

On Nguyen Van Huyen Road, one can also see many super-small houses, with 2m long and less than 30cm wide. A man recently offered for sale a wall of over 1m long at the price of VND1 billion ($48,000).

In Van Bao alley in Ba Dinh District, there are many odd houses, which has the floor area of less than 5 m2, but has up to 4 storeys.

These homes have all functional rooms like the toilet, kitchen, and bedroom.

A mobile stair is used to move between storeys.

A local said these houses were built on the land left after their homes were revoked to build road.

According to Hanoi authorities, there are nearly 600 super-thin and oddly shaped houses in the city.
